ESAANZ AGM 2025

President’s Report

I have just returned from Europe after a three week trip which included a study tour with students to the European Institutions. At the meeting in the European Commission we have learnt about a significant increase in EU funding for Erasmus program which is being negotiated and finalised. The importance of the EU programs such as Erasmus cannot be overstated and I hope Australia will soon be able to join the European research initiatives. In the recent federal budget there has been an item included which suggested the government is prepared to start contributing to this initiative.

Another year is concluding in my role of President of the European Studies Association of Australia and New Zealand (ESAANZ) this year. While we have had a smaller number of seminars and events I think we have experienced some sense of stability in terms of the visibility, collaborations and membership numbers. We have some major success with our journal which is growing in popularity after is has been indexed in Scopus.

I am thankful to the continuous effort made by a small and committed group of people in the Executive Committee who made things happen: Serena, Mat Doidge, Anna, Bruce, Matt Harvey, Maren, Kasia, May and Liam.

On behalf of ESAANZ, I would like to thank you for the work and effort that you have voluntarily contributed to ESAANZ.

You can read it in full here.

I am also attaching the report from the Editor of the Australian New Zealand Journal of European Studies.

Gosia Klatt,
ESAANZ President
